In scenes worthy of an action movie, a worker who fell from the side of a building in east China’s Taicang City last Wednesday was caught and saved from serious injury by a passing martial artist.
As shown by CCTV footage obtained by CGTN, the worker was left clinging to a ledge eight meters above the ground when scaffolding collapsed as he was repairing an advertising board. Wu Qiang, a national youth champion in martial arts in 1984 and now an instructor in Taicang, was passing by and positioned himself to catch the worker just as he could hold on no longer.
The worker escaped with only minor chest injuries, and can be thankful for Wu’s strength and bravery.
Wu Qiang’s hands were swollen for three days afterwards. However, he told CGTN that “as a martial artist, we should have a chivalrous spirit.”
Wu has studied martial arts since he was 7 years old. He has also served as a martial arts consultant on many films.
