14 January, Thailand, a boat carrying 27 Chinese tourists from Nanjing and four local crew members exploded.

A crew member is believed to have died with five other Nanjingers seriously injured. Thai newspapers have reported injured victims will receive 500,000 Thai Baht (¥100,592) in medical aid.

The boat exploded just off the southern coast of Krabi Island. It was heading to Phi Phi Island when its engine caught fire just outside popular tourist limestone attraction the Viking Cave.

It is believed a fuel leak contributed to the cause of the explosion. The five seriously injured are being treated in local hospitals; the remaining 22 will return to Nanjing as planned.
