A dozen finless porpoises appeared on the riverside of Zhujiashan River Sluice on Dec 12 in Pukou District of Nanjing.

The characteristic black spines of the finless porpoises were occasionally seen leaping out of the turbid waves and rolling in the river, trying to catch fish. Surprisingly, nearly 100 black kites, were also dancing in the sky, staring at the scene of finless porpoises chasing fish in the river.

A volunteer for Yangtze finless porpoise conservation said he had been photographing the finless porpoise in the Nanjing section of the river and had never seen this before at the Zhujiashan River Sluice. It is very exciting to see so many of them at this time, he said.

Wang, who took photos of the birds, said he only intended to take photos of the black kites that day. To his surprise, he not only captured the splendid grouping of the birds, but also photographed the finless porpoises. It demonstrates the well-preserved ecological environment in the Yangtze River, in his opinion.
