Founded by Shaolin Master Shi Jianhu in 2015, Yijianheng Martial Arts Training Center is more than a sports club. Under the direction of Master Shi, dedicated students and coaches pursue the fine arts associated with ancient Chinese martial practices. Not only do Yijianheng members train strong bodies, but practitioners dedicate themselves to the mental and spiritual training necessary for Kung Fu mastery. Curious foreigners and Chinese alike may stop by Yijianheng and observe Master Shi’s daily tea and calligraphy rituals, both of which are strongly tied to traditional Chinese martial practice.

Master Shi left his home at the age of 10 to train at the mystical Shaolin Temple, where he studied for 12 years. He then traveled extensively with the Shaolin Temple Wushu Troupe, performing in France, Greece, Russia, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Malaysia before pursuing an acting career in Taiwan. After a two-year run as the male lead in U-Theater Taipei’s A Touch of Zen, Master Shi returned to Nanjing, where his family is now settled. He has been teaching foreign and Chinese students for the past seven years, most recently opening Yijianheng to fulfill his lifelong dream of running his own school.

You don’t need to have special clothing or fitness level to practice Chinese Kung Fu; Yijianheng welcomes students of all ages and abilities. Besides training here in Nanjing, you and your family are welcome to attend one of Yijianheng’s bi-annual Shaolin Homecoming weekend trips, led by Master Shi and his foreign wife Maggie.
