As 2015 dawns Nanjing Expat is rolling out a year-long project that aims to capture an informative snapshot of the expat community in Nanjing.

In the Nanjing Expat 2015 survey that can be completed in just five minutes, Nanjing Expat is seeking to gather information that runs the gauntlet from participants’ country of origin, occupation, area of residence and length of stay in Nanjing, to more intangible studies over the level of participants’ happiness in Nanjing or the most challenging issues faced.

Nanjing Expat Editor-in-Chief Frank Hossack explained the motivation behind the survey. “We’ve been conscious for a while now that they only solid information we have about the numbers of foreigners in Nanjing stems from government information that is now many years old. If they are not going to doing anything about that, then we may as well.

“While it’s pretty obvious that large numbers of expats live in Xianlin near NIS, and that there are a lot of foreigners here studying Chinese, we realise these are at best very broad brushstrokes. With the 2015 survey we hope to be able to present an accurate picture of expats in Nanjing to anyone who is interested.

“For us, that means being able to provide a better service to our users; readers of The Nanjinger for example. We may find there are significant numbers of expats living in a hitherto uncharted part of the city suburbs. That being the case, we would soon have an appropriate map prepared and placed in the magazine”.

Nanjing Expat plans to summarise and make public the results of the survey at the end of each quarter, while prizes shall be awarded to a selection of participants from among those who have chosen to include their email address in the otherwise 100 percent anonymous survey.

Studio flat provider Best Bond, fusion restaurant Origin and hair stylist V-Salon are among sponsors to have so far signed up to offer vouchers to survey participants.
