American chemical giant Celanese has announced it expects to begin industrial ethanol production in Nanjing six to 12 months earlier than expected.

In addition to its plans to construct one, possibly two ethanol production facilities from the ground up, Celanese also intends to modify and enhance its existing integrated acetyl facility at the Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park with their proprietary TCX advanced technology, at a fraction of the cost to build a greenfield facility. The modifications would add approximately 200,000 tons of ethanol production capacity by mid 2013, pending approval, and would accelerate the project by up to a year from previous estimates.
