Two years in the making and Nanjing’s spanking metro new line 4 is almost complete. Connecting eastern and western sections of Nanjing, the first phase will be 34km long and comprise 18 stations and play a major role in this part of the city’s economic development.

Line 4 will finish construction in (approximately) one month and then be tested for three months, before opening to the public in what we hope will be January 2017. This line will accommodate people from northern Zhenququan station going straight through the city stopping off at Zhongbao, Gulou and City Hall stations to name but a few and running all the way south to Xianlin East Station.

Earlier in May 2013, Nanjing Metro Group had awarded a €28m contract to Alstom and SATEE to supply traction systems and associated services to Nanjing Metro Line 4, coming in the shape of twenty-nine type B trainsets in six-car formations that will be able to reach speeds of up to 100kmh.

Netizen’s have coined the line “A Zi” (The Purple) for the colour chosen to represent the train is lavender. Line 4 also goes by another pseudonym; “the Humanistic Line” due to all the many scenic spots that it takes in including Purple Mountain.
