Are you in the business of getting stuff from A to B? Even if you’re not one day you may, and when that day comes Nanjing’s brand new freight train will be there to get the job done faster and better than ever.

For the first time ever Nanjing’s newfangled China-Europe freight train (Nanjing-Moscow) decorously departed from Pukou Railway Station on 29th June and made its way towards the chilly Russian capital.

Hauling with it 46 twenty-foot containers, this staunch steamer is expected to transit the entire 10,000km distance from Nanjing to Moscow in just fifteen days. This considerable journey slashes a month off its original counterpart (sea transportation).

It may be a first for Nanjing, but far from it for China. As of this year, 12 Chinese cities have direct railway links to places in Europe, while here in our very own Jiangsu province, a China-Europe train went into service last February between the north eastern coastal city of Lianyungang and Almaty, the financial and technological hub of Kazakhstan.

Along with bullet trains of the recent past, spanking new airports and innovative city space saving buses, this is another shining example of where China’s at and where she’s headed.
