A number of residential communities in Nanjing have adopted the use of the world’s smallest smart thermometer to help monitor those self isolating at home. With health authorities instantly in the know when a subject’s temperature changes, the technology is nothing short of a life saver.

The patient need only wear a patch the size of a postage stamp. Data from the patch is transmitted using Bluetooth Low Energy to the cloud, from where it is accessed by mobile app. The system is capable of continuously monitoring thousands of patches. For over burdened health system, the innovative solution significantly reduces contact time between caregivers and patients.

Developed by Taiwan-based iWeeCare, the Temp Pal system is also in use in Covid-19-designated hospitals across the Taiwan Straits. There, the 1000-bed Cheng Hsin General Hospital has deployed Temp Pal in its negative pressure isolation rooms, reports Mobile Health News.

In 2019, Temp Pal, the flagship product of iWeeCare, received medical regulatory approval in Taiwan, Thailand and all across the European Union. It was just in the nick of time.

“Since the coronavirus outbreak, we’ve received demand for over 500,000 units from around the world. Our medically-certified wearable solution is small and does not cause any discomfort for long-term, continuous remote temperature monitoring. It is accurate and safe, and we hope this solution can help combat the current pandemic and save lives”, said iWeeCare CEO, Glen Tseng.

The Temp Pal patch weighs only 3 grams and can transmit data for 36 hours on a single charge. The device is also child-friendly and does its job while the patient is sleeping.

Typically worn just below the armpit, Temp Pal is verified and approved by the United States and European thermometer standards. It provides for accurate recording of Basic Body Temperature (BBT) data to within 0.05 degrees Celsius.
