21-year-old girl, Xiao Qian, a previous sufferer of extreme Anorexia Nervosa  on the brink of death, suddenly awoke from a coma and has reportedly forgotten ever suffering from the disease.

At 1.67 metres tall and weighing only 50 pounds, Xiao Qian was admitted to hospital where it was discovered her organs were failing and her brain elasticity resembled that of a 60-year-old.

Too weak to walk, her mother photographed her dramatically thin frame and sent it to doctor Yan Yan, director of the Nutrition Department at Harbin Medical University. “She was diagnosed with Anorexia nervosa, severe malnutrition, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and her body mass index was 9 while most normal people are 18”, the doctor told Sina News.

Only consuming 450 calories a day, doctors struggled to get Xiaoqian to eat anything while she was under their care, in the end feeding her intravenously. When she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was rushed into brain surgery, doctors became uncertain of her survival.

After surgery, she had a number of blood transfusions and remained in a coma for 40 days showing no sign of recovery, until she suddenly woke up and started asking for food.

Doctors say her current status is better than they could have ever imagined. The young lady has gained 20 pounds and is full of expectations for her future. She claims to have no memory whatsoever of her previous weight loss addiction.
