On 28 August 2018, the Nanjing Intermediate People’s Court publicly declared that the former deputy mayor of Huai’an City and the former director of the Public Security Bureau, Ni Xingyu, accepted bribery.
The report, by Shanghai publication The Paper, states that Ni has been sentenced to 10 years, 6 months in prison for accepting bribes. In addition, he has been fined ¥80,000.
The report goes on to say that the trial revealed Ni had used his post, from 2007 to 2014, to seek benefits and purchase illegal property, equivalent to ¥925.25 million.
Due to the fact that Ni confessed to his crimes, he could be given a lighter sentence. All illegal property and money derived from bribery is returned to the state treasury.
