At 8:30 am this morning, 21 September, 2018, a bus in downtown Shanghai knocked down three pedestrians at the intersection of Shaanxi Bei Lu and Nanjing Xi Lu. Two subsequently died.
Police officers and firefighters quickly rushed to the scene of the incident, next to Plaza 66 in the very centre of the city, together with 120 emergency personnel. Upon arrival, they found three injured people and sent them to hospital for medical treatment.
Among them, two died after being rescued, while another injured person is still undergoing treatment.
At present, the driver of the bus, Qian Moumou (female, 54 years old), is under police custody. She is suspected of driving under the influence of both alcohol and drugs..
According to the woman, the vehicle’s brakes failed and the pedestrians were knocked down.
The specific cause of the accident is still under further investigation.
