Jiangsu is set to exploit the uninhabited islands within jurisdiction of the province, said Shen Yi, spokesperson of Oceanic and Fishery Administration of Jiangsu Province on Jun 8.

Jiangsu has a total of 26 sea islands under its administration, 22 of which are not resided by people, namely uninhabited islands. Those non-resident islands are divided into three categories for reasonable and appropriate exploitation, i.e., islands for tourism and leisure, islands for farming, forestry, husbandry and fishery, and islands for public service in accordance with the features of each island.

Take the Bamboo Island for example. With an area of 85,767 square meters, this island is covered with flourishing vegetation dominated by bamboo forest, amid which Pallas pit viper can be seen. In the blue print, a protection zone for serpent is projected to be set up here with a view to developing ecotourism and recreational fishery in the island.

Jiangsu will also practice conservation for typical ecosystem and biodiversity of the island in addition to underlining the protection of the island and environment of the surrounding sea area.
