The first Vegetarian Festival held by Jiangsu University recently opened and attracted a great number of students to have a taste of vegetable dishes distinct from what they have at ordinary times.

Eight beauties in traditional Han Dynasty costumes served 17 vegetable dishes, offering the visitors a real treat. Among the dishes served, there were meat-mimic ones such as veg-fish and veg-chicken drumsticks, not only resembling meat dishes in shape, but also in taste. Wei Pingping spoke highly of the veg-drumsticks, “It tastes really like chicken, not only in terms of taste, but also in texture. It’s delicious and wholesome.”

“Basically, the meat-mimic dishes are made from soybeans and prawns are made from Konjak. Sea vegetables as well as mushrooms and nori are added in the veg-fish. Veg-dishes can be as nutritious as meat dishes,” said Zuo Wenhua, one of the chef.

Niu Hao, one of the organizers said, “We hold this event to help university students realize the importance of vegetarian food. Eat more vegetable is good to health, and also environmental friendly.”
