Nanjing Normal University has two hotels on the Suiyuan campus on Ninghai Lu, and this one is the easiest to find, being located in the southeastern corner of the campus. The rooms range from 280 to 400 yuan a night, but that’s negotiable (I’ve always stayed there for 200 a night). This includes a Chinese style breakfast available from 7.30 to 9am.
It’s a simple hotel, but it’s nice, cheap, reliable, easy, and has a great location. There’s basically no written English aside from the styles of room available, and you can’t really rely on the staff to speak English – it depends on who’s on shift at the time. But if you have even the simplest level of Chinese, you can get a room with not much trouble at all. Sometimes there’s major conferences in the university/area, and so sometimes the hotel is full, and if so they’ll point you to the other hotel, called Nanshan (??), which is just up the hill (still on campus), which is just as nice and similarly priced.
If you’re in Nanjing on business and your budget can’t afford the Hilton et al, this is a perfectly fine option. It’s close to everything.
