This day, 1 August, 1955, China and the United States officially began the Sino-US ambassadorial talks in Geneva. Over the next 15 years, a total of 136 Sino-US ambassadorial talks would be held, becoming an innovative way for the two countries to maintain some kind of contact without diplomatic relations in place. The talks were of great significance in the history of Sino-US relations during the Cold War.
