On this Day in Chinese History; 20 May

On this Day in Chinese History (Year of the Horse)

This day, 20 May, in 2002, the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste was formally established. That same day, China became the first country to establish diplomatic relations with the new Republic, to which the first Chinese Ambassador was Shao Guanfu. In order to support the work of the United Nations, China has sent civilian police as peacekeepers  to the Republic on multiple occasions.
