About 85 percent of bus drivers in Nanjing are willing to wait for pedestrians to pass the road, the city’s Public Transportation Group recently declared.
In September, the city ordered its public bus drivers to wait for pedestrians when there are no traffic lights.
Lang Liang, a member of Nanjing Passengers’ Commission, said that at first only 20 percent of the buses waited for pedestrians on Nanjing’s roads.
“Now most of the bus drivers are willing to wait. Meanwhile, only 30 percent of taxi drivers are willing to do the same,” Lang said.
The city’s public transportation authorities have ordered the taxi companies to regulate their drivers’ behaviors and be more polite to passengers.
