The 77-year-old Nanjing Dahua Theatre reopened on May 29 after two years of renovation. As the only cultural heritage theatre, Dahua Theatre carries the memories of generations of local people.
Established on May 29, 1936, Dahua Theatre was the biggest and most upscale theatre in Nanjing at that time. The exterior of the theatre is designed in western style while the interior follows traditional Chinese court style, displaying a classical combination of Chinese and Western elements. Dahua Theatre was rated as provincial cultural heritage by the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province in 2002.
There are 9 halls and over 1,100 seats in the newly renovated theatre, which also boasts a 4D video hall, a 4K projector (projector with a resolution of 4096×2106), and a panoramic surround sound acoustic system as well as other state-of-the-art hardware. Nanjing citizens can enjoy two free movies on the afternoon of May 29 in the theatre which is expected to be officially put into operation in this June.
