The first pet cemetery for the cremation and burial of pets was established in Nanjing. It costs around 1,000 yuan ($161) for the cremation and burial of a dog.

This pet cemetery is located among camphor trees in Tongjing area of Jiangning District. Under the camphor trees are wooden fences marking the boundaries of this cemetery. Photos of the buried animals are printed on the tombstones, along with an introduction of the pet written by the owner.

“The pet cemetery just opened and has buried a dozen of small animals,” said Tang Wenhao of the Nanjing Haichang Pet Pollution-Free Treatment Ltd. In a cottage not far from where he stood, there is a small incinerator for cremation. A farewell ceremony can also be held at the cemetery.
