All “yellow label car” will be eliminated by the time of Youth Olympic Games, according to Implementation Plan of Deepening the Blue Sky Project to Control Air Pollution issued by Nanjing government, announced Environmental Protection Bureau of Nanjing on June 20.
Accordingly, 30,000 “yellow label cars” will be phased out in 2013, and the rest 36,000 are to be eliminated by June of 2014.
“Yellow label car” is another name for gasoline vehicles that fail to meet National Emission Standard I and diesel vehicles failing to meet National Emission Standard III because the environmental protection label for them is yellow.
It is predicted that, after the elimination of the 66,000 “yellow label cars”, a total of 70,000 tons of pollutant will be reduced, including of 46,000 tons of carbon monoxide, 7,200 tons of hydrocarbon compounds and 15,200 tons of nitrogen oxide, equivalent to the pollution capacity for 1.12 million vehicles meeting National Emission Standard IV.
It’s learnt that Nanjing will prolong the traffic limit for “yellow label cars” to 24 hours a day, based on the temporary control measures of environment quality during the Youth Olympic Games from Aug 1 this year. And from Jan 1 of 2014, diesel vehicles of National Emission Standard II will be added to the list of traffic limit, while the limit area in 5 suburban districts will be enlarged.
