This day, 29 March, in 1970, Anna Louise Strong passed away in Beijing. In addition to her reporting, the American journalist had been a keen supporter of the communist movements of both China and the Soviet Union. An interview she made with Mao Zedong in 1946 made her a household name in China, while Strong also became one of the only Westerners to gain the admiration of the Red Army’s leader.
