Following the publication of the tendering contractors for the Nanjing North Railway Station Economic Zone, the official website for Nanjing Jiangbei New District has published a series of Computer Generated Images (CGI) to inform the public as to the appearance of the large new transportation hub.

Nanjing North Railway Station will form the core of the new Economic Zone that shall also comprise a residential, conference, catering and entertainment complex.

The new transportation hub is an exercise in smart-city construction, for which Jiangbei New District has consulted with Tongji University, Luban Software, Huawei Technologies and other institutions on the principles, cases and cost for the construction of the zone.

The huge project has numerous requirements; “smart hub”, “smart governance”, “smart life”, “smart environment” and “smart industry”.  The aim is to create a high-level industrial and livable community through the integration of production, ecology and life.

According to preliminary planning, Nanjing North Railway Station is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2025 at the end of phase one construction.

In the following phase, from 2026 to 2030, supporting industries shall be completed while leisure tourism will also begin, for which Laoshan National Park will play a key role.

Phase three shall commence in 2031 with a focus on developing a modern service industry and forming a complete industrial chain.

Nanjing North Railway Station expects a throughput of 29 million, 34 million and 37 million passengers, in 2035, 2040 and 2050, respectively, translating to an average daily flow of 79,000, 93,000 and 101,000, respectively.

The new transportation hub shall also be served by four metro lines, just like its southerly sister. Metro Line S11 shall link Nanjing North Railway Station to Nanjing Lukou International Airport, with a journey time of just 40 minutes. Nanjing North Railway Station shall be joined to the rest of the metro network via lines 3, 4 and S4.
