On this Day in Chinese History; 4 October

This day, 4 October, in 1988, Deng Xiaoping met with Helmut Schmidt, former German Chancellor. When Deng talked about what new order and principles could replace international relations, he said, “As far as my personal knowledge goes, what can stand the test is the ‘Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence’. These  can serve countries with different systems, different levels of development, and neighbours”.
