As pollution in Beijing continues to hit the headlines all over the world, with the air-quality monitoring device atop the American Embassy recording level of 755 on the PM2.5 index that considers a level of 500 to be the worst possible, environmental news from China goes from back to worse.

A study jointly conducted by The Asian Development Bank together with Tsinghua University has revealed that of the ten most polluted cities in the world, seven are in China. They are (in descending order of pollution) Taiyuan, Beijing, Urumqi, Lanzhou, Chongqing, Jinan and Shijiazhuang.
