China to roll out new policy for train ticket returns

China’s national railway operator, China Railway Corporation, announced a new ticket return policy, which will be rolled out from Sept 1.

According to the new policy, passengers will be able to return their train tickets at any railway station in mainland China. Fees charged for returning tickets will also be differentiated.

Currently, train tickets can be picked up all over the country. Tickets booked through the Internet or telephone booking service can be picked up at any ticket window in China.

But the return of tickets can only be processed at the station where the ticket is sold or at the boarding station. Ticket return can’t be handled in the terminal station or intermediate stations. For example, a Beijing-to-Shanghai ticket sold in Nanjing can only be returned in Nanjing Railway Station or Beijing Railway Station.
