An Italian was fined 1,500 yuan (US$246.2) for taking an undeclared pot plant into Nanjing on Jan 15. The quarantine officers in Nanjing Lukou Airport spotted the attempt and identified that the plant was a reproducible sapling with its root covered with soil, which are prohibited from entering China according to provisions in “Administrative Measures on Quarantine of Articles Carried by Entry and exit Passengers”.
According to the provision, persons carrying undeclared and prohibited goods shall be subject to a fine of no more than 5,000 yuan (US$820.67) by the inspection and quarantine institution.
