Refuge system built for safer mining

Jiangsu province has completed the construction of an underground emergency refuge system that covers coal mines across the whole province ahead of schedule, said the Administration of Coal Mine Safety of Jiangsu Province on Apr 7.

Jiangsu has invested 500 million yuan (US$80.6 million) to build 53 emergency refuge facilities, including 30 permanent refuge chambers, 17 temporary refuge chambers and 6 mobile rescue capsules. Jiangsu has the largest number of coal mines with mining depths exceeding 1,000m in China. Coal mine enterprises in Jiangsu are required to carry out emergency drills every year in the future and establish the emergency broadcasting system for withdrawal before the end of 2013.
