The 25-day-long Sweet Olive Festival of Linggu Temple will be unveiled on the Mid-autumn Festival on Sept 19 in Nanjing.
The osmanthus fragrans (also known as sweet olive) at the scenic area of Zhongshan Mountain (also known as Purple Mountain) was recently in such full bloom that the air was permeated with refreshing aroma everywhere. There is such a king-size osmanthus tree in Linggu Temple, which measures 1-meter diameter in its main trunk and 7 meters tall with the crown of the tree reaching 8 meters in diameter. The tree is over a century old, standing in the central axis line of the scenic area of Linggu Temple in full bloom.
A series of events will be held at the great lawn of the King Osmanthus Tree on the morning of the Sept 19, including a concert featuring the theme of reunion, bell-tolling ritual of praying, and singing and dancing performances by teenage or young children.
