The 2013 Nanjing Mayor Roundtable Consultation Meeting (hereinafter referred to as the meeting) was held on Sept 28. During the meeting with a theme of “Promoting Nanjing’s environmental protection and achieving sustainable and green development”, the ways and solutions for urban sustainable development were studied and discussed with focus on prominent issues occurred in the course of sustainable development of cities.
Ji Jianye, mayor of Nanjing, said that Nanjing has now possessed the fundamental conditions for overall promotion of its ecological civilization construction and has achieved fruitful results in aspects including energy conservation and emission reduction, green-energy utilization and living environment improvement while challenges still exists in the ecological civilization construction.
In view of the several challenges facing Nanjing’s ecological civilization construction, guests for the meeting offered their opinions and suggestions, studied and discussed ways and solutions in urban sustainable development and shared successful experiences and the best-practice achievements in this aspect. For example, Nawel Rafik-Elmrini, vice mayor of Strasbourg city in France, introduced the construction of a “multi-mode transportation system” in Strasbourg. In the system, measures including tram-network construction, reduction of vehicles amounts, development of alternative transportation means, transformation of people’s travelling mode, development of hybrid vehicles and establishment of carpool associations will provide good references for the urban construction in Nanjing.
The meeting, as one of the important activities of the 2013 China (Nanjing) Golden-Autumn Economic and Trade Fair, aims at allowing the mayor of Nanjing to promote and introduce the business opportunities and good investment environments in Nanjing and attract top-500 enterprises in the world and famous multinational companies to invest and develop in Nanjing.
