With the theme of “Downton Abbey”, it will be back to the 1920s for the return of the British Ball in Nanjing to raise vital funds for two amazing charities. So let the styles of a century ago be your passport to a night of glamour!

Last year, the first British Ball in Nanjing held in May raised a staggering ¥420,000 for local charity, Hopeful Hearts. This year, with the Rainbow Centre joining as recipients, organizers are hoping to top that figure.

And there can be hardly a better venue for it than the ballroom in The Ritz Carlton, Nanjing.

First up will be a welcome cocktail reception before a sit-down dinner created by the hotel’s chefs, accompanied by free-flow drinks. Then it will be time for guests to get serious at the casino tables, trying their hands at roulette, blackjack and other games for the charities.

Live music and entertainment shall accompany throughout, with the dance floor opening for business after everyone’s chips have run dry.

Given the success of last year, tickets are sure to be snapped up soon. Individual tickets are priced at ¥1,500, while a table of ten is going for ¥13,000. Head over the ball’s official home on the web to make a purchase via this link, or scan the QR code below for ticket purchase and further information, which is, at time of writing, being continually updated.

On a corporate level, several sponsor slots remain available at present. For brands, this is a the perfect opportunity to be associated with philanthropy, gain the respect of the general public and build awareness, all at the same time.

Companies interested in becoming a sponsor should contact the Ball organiser, Ms Erinda Demeti, by email: erinda.demeti@bsn.org.cn

So look out all those 1920s glad rags you have stashed in the back of your wardrobe and get set to help two fantastic good causes.

Hopeful Hearts assists with funding life-saving operations for local children, often abandoned because of their condition, or because they come from a farming community and/or low-income families. Fully 96 percent of all money raised goes directly to paying for heart operations. Two more Hopeful Hearts’ teams operate in Guangzhou and Chengdu.

Rainbow Centre, set up in 2014, provides palliative and hospice care for critically ill children to improve the quality of their lives. Working with local orphanages in Nanjing and Xiamen, Rainbow helps abandoned children to receive love and care, and to experience a little of the day-to-day life many of us take for granted.

Slated to last from 18:00 until 02:00, the British Charity Ball of Nanjing, with The Nanjinger as one of its sponsors, will likely be this year’s best opportunity to get together, have a little fun and raise funds for charity.
