Fluff fans in China have reason to be concerned at the unfortunate experience which befell four kittens in Nanjing in recent days. The litter had in fact been driven almost 40 kilometres along a Nanjing highway exposed to the elements under the front of a car.

When a Mr. Fan recently drove out to Nanjing Lukou International Airport to pick up some goods, he was blissfully unaware that he in fact had four rather cute stowaways along for the ride.

But their cuteness was exceeded by the terror that the fluff balls were undoubtedly experiencing. For the kittens had earlier taken up refuge inside the lower front radiator grille of Fan’s vehicle.

And as most owners of four wheels are very aware, that’s just one of the many places around a car that cats like to grab a nap. The engines of cars powered by internal combustion keep the front portion of the vehicle warm for several hours after the owner has gone home to rest. That’s when the cats come out seeking their home for the night.

Thus Fan had no idea the course of his every day was causing four kittens a harrowing experience, until he was informed by airport security as to their presence inside the front of his car.

Speaking with The Paper as to why he did not notice his feline passengers, Fan said, “I was quite surprised. Because from our house to the airport, we have to take the highway all the way.

“It takes half an hour to get to the airport from here. That’s about 38 kilometres under the car.”

In retrospect, Fan had time to contemplate and theorise as to how the kittens got in the front of his car in the first place.

“I guess the mother cat threw them in there, since the four kittens are too small to be able to climb in themselves. She also took them to a place where no one is around”, said Fan.

Dispute what the kittens had been through, online feline sympathisers decided not to give Fan the roasting some might think he served.

“That’s four lucky cats”, they all agreed.
