Wuhan did it, and now Nanjing is doing it too, as well as every super-size city in the country. We’re talking emergency hospital shelters, largely for the use of COVID-positive patients. And the majority of them is going to be bused in from Shanghai.
Omicron is indeed proving to be tenacious. Despite the best efforts of all, Nanjing recorded another seven cases of COVID, all light, in the 24 hours to 00:00 today, 12 April. Meanwhile, three cases of asymptomatic infection were released from isolation and medical observation.
On to the big news these days. No less than four emergency hospitals are either in the process of being set up or are already complete in Nanjing.
It’s a development that is the result of the joint prevention and control mechanism of the State Council recently releasing “Norms for the Management of Shelter Hospital Settings”.
In accordance with the relevant national and provincial requirements, each province should prepare at least two hospital shelters, and cities with a population of over 8 million should have at their disposal at least 2,000 hospital beds.
Han Liming is Standing Committee Member and Secretary of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee. As PSA Nanjing (南京发布) reported this morning, Han yesterday inspected the preparation of one such hospital in our city.
There, she stressed that it is necessary to speed up the construction of temporary emergency medical treatment facilities such as shelter hospitals, strengthen emergency reserves of key public health facilities and effectively improve the ability to respond to major public health emergencies.
So where are all these hospitals? The answer is the districts of, Jiangning, Jianye, and Lishui; together with Jiangbei New Area.
Last of the aforementioned is that in the Youth Olympic Stadium (pictured) which was a venue for the second Youth Olympics in 2014. It has a a total of 700 beds and while currently undergoing system debugging, it is already open for operation.
On this side of the river in Jianye District, Nanjing International Expo Centre is being transformed into a hospital facility with a capacity for 1,000 people.
Then there is that in southerly Lishui District. There, the Lishui Sports Park Stadium Hospital has an area of more than 7,000 square meters, where it can accommodate a total of 322 patients.
Lastly, with 722 beds, the fourth hospital, which would have been really handy last year, is located at Nanjing Lukou International Airport.
