You’ve probably seen them. And maybe been almost run over by one. Young boys getting their first taste of motoring. But these “cars”, intended as toys, usually stay within the confines of residential compounds. That was until Nanjing Police had reason to pull one over.

In the last few days, and as many have no doubt done, the parents of a 10-year-old boy decided to take a National Day holiday nap.

And the boy decided that would be the perfect time to take his favourite toy for a spin. On the big road.

Luckily for the young lad, he was only able to drive as far as the gate of his neighbouring community, before police, alerted to his deed, intervened.

The cops, who were trying not to laugh, began by asking the boy’s name.

Having ascertained where he came from, the police then amused themselves by patiently spending time educating the boy as to road safety, driving etiquette and the reasons why such toy cars should not be driven on a public road.

Officer Wang Yisi of Gulou District police, spoke with media to remind the general public that such electric cars are, and shall always remain, toys.

As such, they are only to be used in a safe location; within a residential community and under adult supervision, reports The Paper.

In fact, the police categorises toy vehicles of this sort as they do personal transporters. And that means taking them on the open road is an absolute no no.

Back at the scene of the crime, the amused police officers escorted the boy home and carried his car to the gate of his community.

“Don’t drop my car”, the boy was overheard as saying.
