Nanjing Zhiyuan Foreign Language School fifth grader Chen Anzhi wrote three letters to the British Queen Elizabeth II and was rather shocked to receive a reply. “I did not expect to receive a reply, I feel very happy!” an excited Chen told reporters. The content was relatively short, and written by the Queen’s attendants on her behalf.

The letter said: An, thank you for your letter, especially your beautiful painting of Buckingham Palace. I heard that you and your classmates have been involved in environmental activities, this brings me much joy. I have enclosed some information, which I hope will help you.

After watching a BBC documentary, “Queen’s Imperial Garden”, Chen learnt that the Queen is an environmentalist, that the Royal Garden at Buckingham Palace is a natural ecological park and that she and other British environmentalists have over time built it together. Chen is well known for her efforts, known as “Environmental Protection for the People” at her school, and she initiated the idea to write to the Queen. “I wrote three letters to the Queen, introducing her to our ‘Earth Guard’ small environmental community activities, but also expressed to the Buckingham Palace environmental experts to ask for their well wishes.”

Recently, Chen and the students began a new topic, “Express Packaging; Paper Waste Utilization”. Chen said she would also like to reply to the Queen, and update her on this matter!
