An estimated 1 Million Euro worth of luxury bikes will be on display at the Asia Bike exhibition in Nanjing from 26-29th July, 2012 where many designer brands will be serving up not only the world’s sportiest, most luxurious and expensive bikes but also some of the strangest constructions you have ever seen.

Beginning last year as a joint exhibition with the long standing and highly successful Asia Outdoor trade show, Asia Bike has almost doubled in size this year to occupy two halls of Nanjing’s International Expo and Conference Center, attracting 230 plus exhibitors, over last year’s 138; Shimano, Specialized, Look, Merida, Cube, BMC, Cervelo and Focus are this year joined by Bergamont, BH, Bianchi, Corratec, Mercedes Smart, Haibike, Staiger, Hercules, KTM, Pinarello, Wheeler and many more.

“The double exhibition of AsiaBike and Asia Outdoor focuses on the synergy of both industries which are increasing noticeable in China. Many outdoor retailers in China also sell sports bikes and vice versa”, says Klaus Wellmann, CEO of Messe Friedrichshafen.

This year the exhibition offers two public days (28th & 29th July) that provide visitors with an extensive program including BMX displays, road bike race circuit, mountain bike test track, fashion show, various workshops and a 6-hour cycling endurance race!

Yet the luxury bike shall remain the big attraction, and not only for those who want a snapshot of themselves standing beside the world’s most expensive bicycles; there will be those present too who are serious about buying. Knut Jaeger, Chairman of the Nanjing fair, says, “Buyers of high-end sport bikes are not so much the athletes, but mainly high-income people who want to do something for their health after the basic needs such as good education, good job, housing and a car are fulfilled.

“Here, the image of the brand is often more important than the function of the product. Those who can afford a Mercedes, BMW and Porsche Cayene wants a bicycle brand that matches the image of his car. That is why the automobile industry is so deeply involved in China’s two-wheeler market.”

Asia Bike runs concurrently with Asia Outdoor, and is open to the public on 28th and 29th July, 2012, at Nanjing’s International Expo and Conference Center in the city’s Olympiad area. The venue is best accessed by Metro via lines 1 and 2 from Yuantong station.
