Following the recent murder of a Didi Chuxing passenger, which came shortly after a similar case earlier in May of this year, the company has announced it is to suspend all late-night services in an effort to boost security measures.

On 4 September 2018, Didi announced it will suspend all personal transportation services from 11:00pm to 5:00am. The suspension shall last until 15 September. No statement has as yet been made regarding services thereafter.

In addition, Didi, announced seven major changes will be implemented that include an upgrade of functions including “Emergency Help”, “One Button Alarm” and “Safety Center”.

The company claims to continue carrying out criminal background checks, daily facial recognition for drivers and promised further cooperation with police to crackdown on crime.

“After profoundly drawing lessons from major safety accidents, we will start safety rectification on September 4, 2018 to ensure the safety of travel, and the legitimate rights and interests of both parties and speed up the compliance process”, Didi said.
