A woman from Suzhou reportedly sent her daughter to a hospital in order to receive plastic surgery as a “study gift”.

Plastic surgery is booming in China, with hospitals dedicated exclusively to plastics popping up in cities all over the country.

Young women and girls are lured into the hospitals with promises of quick and easy surgeries at inexpensive prices.

Posters have been spotted in Nanjing persuading students with summer discounts at local plastic surgery hospitals, while some even offer procedures that can be done during one’s lunch break.

Director Zhao, Chief Physician of Plastic Surgery at the Suzhou University Second Affiliated Hospital, told reporters from Look News, “Because school is about to start, there is still a week or so to go, [we are] mainly focusing on the head and face. Now the most common [goal] is to have “spot and hair removal”. And double eyelids, eye bags, and rhinoplasty, [which can] all heal in a week”.

The reporter interviewed Xiao Li, who is just about to become a senior and will be looking for work by the end of the academic year. Li, who had double eyelid surgery says it was a “study gift” from her mother.

“After school resumes, I want to show I am pretty because when the company recruiters come to the school for an interview, I will have a better chance”, said Li.

These kinds of surgeries do not require long recovery times and trauma to the face is less than with other more invasive surgeries. Doctors say this is a big reason why so many students choose to have it done before starting school. Doctor Zhao says he has worked on 30 students in recent days.

The report states that a recent survey on the matter revealed 58.6 percent of respondents indicated that they had undergone plastic surgery, and 64.52 percent thought that the plastic surgery made them more confident and optimistic.
