NANJING, China, Nov. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — The southern part of Jiangsu, collectively known as Jiangnan, is a region composed of water towns and rivers.

Other than being the “Venice of the East“, it is also home to some of the most renowned Chinese culture and art, like Kunqu opera, purple clay teapots and Su embroidery.

To promote the local culture and art further, Guru Online, on behalf of Jiangsu Tourism Administration, invited American photographer and YouTuber Jay Mantri to Jiangnan. Mantri visited a list of 2016 China-US Tourism Year destinations in the area and experienced first-hand the charm of the region.

During the 10-day Discover Jiangnan cultural tour, Jay visited six major cities in Jiangsu; Nanjing, Yangzhou, Nantong, Suzhou, Wuxi and Yixing. He experienced local folk arts, including kite-making, dim sum making, blue calico dyeing, Kunqu Opera and purple clay teapot making, but of all the destinations, he was most impressed by the ancient water town of Zhouzhuang, located near Suzhou.

“Before my visit, local media and “China Towns“ in the US were the only sources for me to learn more about this country,” commented Mantri, “yet after this Discover Jiangnan journey, I want to tell my friends and followers, if you’d like to experience authentic Chinese culture, there’s no better place than Jiangnan. I love Zhouzhuang! Old houses, stone bridges and narrow lanes, everything there put me in awe. I’ll be back with my friends and show them how wonderful this ancient place is.”

Discover Jiangnan was a great success, receiving over 16 million impressions, and around 100,000 netizens from around the world, including the United States, Italy, Canada, Singapore, Australia, France and Germany, have interacted with the official travel page of Jiangsu.
