Tragic Death of Boy Highlights Video Game Dangers

A recent tragedy that has involved the untimely death of a 13-year-old boy from Haimen City, Eastern Jiangsu Province, has shone a light on the dangers that concern the use of computer video games by children.

The boy, Xu Tianci, is reported to have leapt to his death from his uncle’s fourth-floor apartment at around midnight on 30 August.

It has been claimed Xu was playing the computer game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, also known as PUBG on his ipad before he died.

His distraught mother, Yu Lihua, was quoted saying, “The video game caused my son’s death. There is not other reason”. Her reasoning; a belief that her son wanted to see if he could survive like the characters in the game.

The boy’s uncle claimed everything appeared normal when he said goodnight at 11pm and his mother insists their was no reason for the suicide. The boy was discovered 6 hours later in the morning, when he was pronounced dead.
