This day, 17 October, in 1980, Deng Xiaoping met with French President, Giscard d’Estaing. Deng Xiaoping said that the “multipolar politics” proposed by d’Estaing is an objective reality. Multipolarity requires unity. There is no leader or treaty, but rather mutual coordination of actions and policies is what is needed; the relationship between the USA and Europe can only be an equal partnership.
