The 97-year-old US citizen, Menz, inflicted with a serious illness, had no choice but take medicines when he was in the US. After learning from internet that his illness could be cured by Chinese doctor’s operation, his daughter, Fero, put on a trans-national rescue operation by flying him from thousand miles away to Nanjing in order to seek medical treatment.
The elderly has badly suffered from the illness of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and been counting on medication for 7 years since the diagnosis was confirmed in 2006. After reading an article on a foreign science website in May of 2013 about the treatment of PAH published by Chen Shaoliang, director of the cardiology department of Nanjing First Hospital, his daughter immediately contacted Doctor Chen.
The old man, wearing an oxygen converter and accompanied by his daughter, took a flight from San Francisco and arrived in Nanjing around 6 pm on Sept 12. And now, Menz’s condition got much better. He is in good form and is going to be discharged from the hospital on Sept 18 and fly back to the US.
“I can’t believe that my father’s illness has had such a big turnaround. It was inconceivable before I came to China,” the daughter expressed excitedly during the interview.
