As part of Nanjing’s new top echelons of government sworn in following the city’s 15th congress, the number of deputy mayor positions in Nanjing has been cut from 12 to eight.
While also being a clever bunch; the eight new deputy mayors hold four doctorates between them, our elected representatives are younger than their predecessors, mainly being in their early 50s.
The sizing down in the number of second from top governmental posts in Nanjing is part of the focus of this year’s congress to improve local government efficiency. Mayor Ji Jianye said the new deputies shall work on issues that draw public attention, such as old building reconstruction and public transportation.
