Tomb Sweeping Day falls this year on 5 April, coinciding with the Easter break for many international schools. That’s the hot duo, combined with a rediscovered lust for travel, initiating an aircraft to very soon take to the skies carrying passengers from Nanjing to Bali.

The Nanjinger learned this morning that the Nanjing – Bali flight shall make its debut on 31 March, to be followed by another on Tomb Sweeping Day itself, and then many more, to eventually establish a regular schedule from May on.

Operator of the service shall be Sriwijaya Air. Flight SJ1191 shall depart Nanjing Lukou International Airport on 31 March; and 5, 10, 15, 19, 24 and 29 April. Going forward, the service is to tentatively then operate four times a week, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

The schedule is slated to see the flight depart Nanjing at 20:00 for an arrival into Denpasar International Airport at 02:25 the following day.

For now, the schedule remains subject to change without prior notice.

At time of writing, tickets from Nanjing to Bali on the Sriwijaya Air website were sold out for all of the aforementioned dates, most likely to travel agents.

The Bali service out of Nanjing is in fact, not a new offering as such. Flight SJ1191 last flew out of Nanjing on 31 January, 2020, just as COVID was moving into the big leagues.

Sriwijaya Air shall be 20 years old this year. At present, the operator also flies out of Hangzhou and Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province to the island paradise.

Known as “Pulau Dewata” in Indonesian, or “Island of Gods”, Bali is also the only hop at present from Nanjing to the Southern Hemisphere, at 8 degrees south of the equator.

New York City’s Travel and Leisure magazine awarded Bali as Best Island back in 2010, while BBC Travel ranked it as the world’s second best island, after Santorini in Greece. Most recently, Bali was the world’s top destination in the Traveller’s Choice award from TripAdvisor in 2021.
