This day, 12 May, in 2008, a massive earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale occurred in Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province. Felt in nearly half of China, with skyscrapers in Nanjing noticeably moving, this was the largest earthquake to occur in an inhabited area of China since the founding of PRC. Ever since, 12 May has been “National Disaster Prevention and Reduuction Day”.
