On this Day in Chinese History; 20 October

This day, 20 October, in 1996, President Ernesto Samper of the Republic of Colombia paid a state visit to China, the first by a Colombian head of state. During the visit, President Jiang Zemin said that the Chinese government appreciates the Colombian government’s just behaviour in withstanding pressure and opposing external interference to safeguard national independence and sovereignty.
