This day, 3 November, in 1987, UNESCO presented an award to Yuan Longping at its Paris headquarters in recognition of his cultivating high-yield hybrid rice. The “UNESCO Science Prize” was established in 1968 and is awarded every 2 years to scientific researchers who have made outstanding achievements in the scientific and technological development of developing countries.
