In order to further promote tourism in Nanjing, each year scenic spots will arrange to be free and open to the public for at least one day of the year. The Nanjing Municipal Price Bureau have said this initiative has been in operation since 2009.

In February of this year, the timetable was announced for visits to such sites in Nanjing in 2017. A total of 47 spots were included; two more than last year. Note that out of the seven scenic spots open for free this month, the Yuejiang Tower will issue 10,000 coupons in advance; upon presenting these vouchers visitors will be allowed to enter the park. Valid ID is required. The Half-price group is those who normally qualify for half price tickets, including those over 60 or between 6 and 18 years of age plus full-time undergraduate and undergraduate students.
