Entire Airport to get 3 Week Shut Down for Runway Maintenance

Travellers in east China are today being forewarned of one of our airports taking the near-unprecedented step of closing in its entirety for a 3-week period. That means all flights are cancelled; affected travellers are being urged to contact their airlines.

The airport in question is Wuxi’s Sunan Shuofang International Airport, which shall be seeing no flights in or out for the period from 09:00 on 3 September, 2023, to 24:00 on 23 September, 2023.

With runway maintenance responsible for the shutdown, the dates have undoubtedly been chosen for the convenience of their falling after Chinese children return to school at the end of their summer holiday.

But those holding tickets for this period still need make alternative arrangements to fly in or out of another airport in the region. For many, that means a lot more hassle for their journey plans, such as trekking out to Nanjing or Shanghai.
