This day, 8 August, in 1990, the People’s Republic of China resumed diplomatic relations with the Republic of Indonesia, after the relationship between the two countries deteriorated in 1965. In 1989, then Foreign Minister, Qian Oichen, went to Japan to attend the funeral of Emperor Hirohito and reopened diplomatic relations through “funeral diplomacy”.
